About

Built for the work — not a catalog of courses.

SMG

Who we are

To equip operators with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to work safely and effectively in arduous undersea environments — and to stay involved so that capability holds.

Programs are written to a next-generation training model. The principles are built into the standards divers train to — not added on top of an off-the-shelf course.

Work is delivered worldwide — to the unit, or at controlled sites — with records and standards that hold up to audit. Undersea is the core. The company is structured to take on broader maritime requirements as those missions expand.

How we work

Train to mastery, not to a checklist.

What distinguishes SMG is the learning model underneath the diving. Attrition and risk are driven less by raw fitness than by whether critical skills have been built to automaticity — and whether they hold under stress and degraded conditions.

Most programs stop at conscious competence: the diver can perform the skill, but it still costs attention. SMG trains through to automaticity so operators keep bandwidth for the mission.

Mastery learning

A diver advances only when they have met a defined standard — not when a block of time has elapsed. Small instructor-to-student ratios give each diver the individual time that takes. The standard stays constant. Time-to-competence varies.

Deliberate practice

Skills are broken into measurable objectives — buoyancy and trim, propulsion, gas management, valve and S-drill procedures, failure response, team positioning, navigation. Practice is repetitive and criteria-based. Assessment is against rubrics, not impressions, producing an auditable record of what each diver can and cannot yet do.

Structured debrief

Every training dive closes with a structured debrief. Video and instrument data make performance visible and convert each dive into specific work for the next. Learning space is built around that loop, including portable displays for debrief and flipped-classroom sessions.

Standards first

Programs are written against the job and applicable diving standards — not a menu of one-off courses.

Keep the standard

We transfer the knowledge so the unit can run the work. We stay involved — keeping customers current and the standard in place.
